Welcome to the 4-H Mentoring Committee Wiki!!

The chart below is intended to keep track of new staff in a more efficient way; it allows committee members to add new staff and update directly.

Please see the Mentoring Committee recent meeting minutes in the sidebar. If you want to be involved, contact the 2011 co-chairs,  Mark Wittmeyer at mjw16@cornell.edu or Guin Panek ges15@cornell.edu.

Initial Welcome Letter - We have created a letter for new 4-H staff in your district for 2010. As a committee members, you can personalize and send as soon as you know of a new colleague. It provides a brief overview of the NYS Association of CCE 4-H Educators (NYSACCE 4-HE) and the mentoring program which is available for new staff- 2011 initial Welcome Letter.doc

The 2011 welcome letter for kit.doc that is included with the Welcome Kit given to new staff members can also be found in the sidebar (at right of page).

For instruction on how to update the wiki chart, please see the instructions below the chart.

FrontPage Instruction/Explanation for Updating New Staff Chart

This is intended to be a 2 part method, using the wiki chart below and working spreadsheet (the master welcome kit spreadsheet) The wiki chart will be used for active entries, new staff who need mentoring kits and/or mentors. The spreadsheet will be used to archive and organize new staff entries from the wiki once they are no longer active (they have received both a mentoring kit and/or mentor if so desired), along with tracking experienced staff, who may be acting as mentors or staff who no longer require mentors, and retired staff.

Updating/adding new entries to the wiki:

1. Log-in

2. Select edit tab at the top of page

3. Add a row if necessary (right click on box, select 'add row')

4. Insert the appropriate information

In order to track updates, please add in parenthese the date you update a new staff member's record for the Welcome Kit and Mentor Columns. (If a kit or mentor is NOT desired, please note this in the corresponding column).

Master Spreadsheet:

The master spreadsheet will be updated regularly.  The most recent copy may be downloaded above or see link in sidebar.  It has several tabs to navigate through to access the various charts.  Please email Kim Fleming (kff2@cornell.edu) with any questions.

Thank you Jen for starting this for us. Hopfully, I will become more up to date on how to use it.

Kudos to Jen Loveland, our student, for getting this started. It's easy to go on and add a comment. Look under the chart in progress.
You just need to request access first from the wiki.

Great meeting today! This may be where we want to suggest replies for our "Ask Uncle Al" column in News-n-Views due Feb 17th. We can reply to Jody Maneely at jlm26@cornell.edu or write here: "What would you tell a new staff member about why they should attend the 2009 National Association of Extension 4-H Agents (NAE4-HA) in Rochester, NY from October 25 - 29, 2009. Since I'm co-chairing the Special Events committee, I would say attend for the amazing networking opportunities during the outstanding Special Events. We will be featuring a Northeast Trek through the Seasons on Opening Night, a Dinner Theatre on-site on Tuesday, and Wednesday we'll have a NYC dinner featuring food from a variety of cultures to be followed by a NYC Street Fair with desserts and entertainment "on the Street." Of course, my favorite is the State's Night Out a time to gel with colleagues from our own State - always a delightful way to spend an evening. Let's be sure to state that the NAE4-HA 2009 Conference's website is up at: http://nys4h.cce.cornell.edu/nae4ha2009/index.html
Jody let me know if you can pull from my comments for Ask Uncle Al. Kim

Hi Committee Members,
This will be a great help to us all. Thank you Jen for getting us on board. I can certainly pull comments from here for Uncle Al column as long as everyone can add their comments. I found that once I had a password for one PBWIKI it worked on all of them. Not sure if that's how it is supposed to work but once I received access to this one, I used the same password for the other wiki and got in. I'll get the minutes typed and see if I can get them on this wiki. Good call today.
Good luck to everyone. Your e-mail will also let you know when changes have been made to the wiki.

I also think that going to the 2009 National Conference is a time to find out what other associations are doing that work best for them. Being a new educator, I find that no matter where I go to a 4-H conference I am always learning something new and exciting that I can take back to my owe office. I also agree with what Kim stated that Networking. I know that from the 2008 State Conference I was able to meet a lot of people face to face that I had heard of before.

Thanks for the great call today.

Hello Committee,
I have added a page "Mentoring Committee Minutes" to our WIKI and have uploaded the minutes from our conference call. Once you get access to the wiki you can select that page and click on the file named minutes and view them. Good Luck.

Kim and Katrina,

I was able to copy your "Uncle Al" comments to a word document. I received an e-mail from Margie, so the rest of you please comment. Thanks so much!

Hi,
I sent out an email asking for all of South Central to update the info I had and I recieved an email that Garrett Fenton is no longer with Chemengo County. We can remove his name.
Thanks,
Katrina

HI Megan Tift would like to be added to work Wiki. I am not sure how to do this. I don't think actually I have the authority to do it. So, someone that is more up to date on this can you please add her?
Thanks,
Katrina
